First Attempt
|
An initial attempt with an animated series started in
2002/2003 with the animation company Elliott Animation. The animation
was done by
Paul Neale, and some of the images can still
be found on his site (see
Image 1,
Image 2,
Image 3,
Image 4).
There was a 3.5MB trailer on the official site, but things did not work out
and the animated series was not realised. The trailer was subsequently
removed but can be downloaded at Paul Neale's site or here.

Second Attempt
According to the announcement on the official
site.
"Dear Magi-Nation Fans:
The licensing agreement to produce the much anticipated Magi-Nation® animated
series has been finalized with a multinational studio. The studio is expected
to make production and network related press releases in the near future.
If all proceeds according to plan the animated series should begin to be aired
in various worldwide markets sometime between Fall 06, Spring 07 and Fall 07.
In addition, we expect that the CCG will be re-launched at the time the new
series is aired domestically.
Company operations, Magi-Nation® Duel expansion releases and support are
suspended until the Magi-Nation® animated series is released.
We will update this notice when additional information becomes available. We
appreciate fan patience and support." Fall 2006 would be
around September 2006. Notice how the announcement makes it clear that the
studio is multinational which might mean it may not be based in the US.
Notice also that phrase "new series is aired domestically" which could mean a
delay between the initial airing some place else and airing "domestically" in
the US. It is believed that this multinational studio is the Canadian
Cookie Jar Entertainment based on the announcement by Tribal Nova:

February 3, 2006
On securing funding from Telefilm Canada for the production and marketing of
Magi-Nation Online, Cookie Jar Entertainment is contracting the game's
production to Tribal Nova. Magi-Nation Online is a fantasy multi-player
adventure game mainly designed for boys aged 9 to 12 years, based on a
card-game-collection set.
Cookie Jar Entertainment confirms that the animated series will be shown by
the CBC in Canada and The CW in the USA:
COOKIE JAR ENTERTAINMENT LICENSES
MAGI-NATION TO KIDS' WB! ON THE CW, CANADIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION AND
RADIO-CANADA
LOS ANGELES, CA (February 21, 2007) - Cookie Jar Entertainment has forged a deal
with Kids' WB! on The CW in the US, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and
Radio-Canada to be the North American broadcast homes for "Magi-Nation," Cookie
Jar's newest original series from its rapidly growing action-adventure brand
Coliseum. The networks will broadcast the show's first 26 episodes.
"We are pleased to have placed 'Magi-Nation' with some of the top broadcasters
in children's entertainment," said Toper Taylor, Cookie Jar Entertainment
President and COO. "The addition of 'Magi-Nation' to our growing library of
action-adventure shows demonstrates Cookie Jar's commitment to expanding our
creative and balanced portfolio of quality programs for kids of all ages."
"With the multi-platform capabilities of 'Magi-Nation,' the series will
organically extend its animated adventures – and Kids' WB! branded entertainment
– far beyond the television screen," said Betsy McGowen, Kids' WB! Senior Vice
President and General Manager.
"I'm thrilled to have 'Magi-Nation' on the CBC. There is so much strength and
appeal in a great fantasy adventure for school-aged kids. I can't wait to see
them get immersed in this property," said Kim Wilson, Creative Head, CBC
Children's & Youth Programming.
A multi-platform entertainment brand, kids will enter the fantastic world of
"Magi-Nation" this fall via the 2-D animated television series, where they can
follow the adventures of the three young Magi heroes. From there, fans can
experience the continuing action of Tony Jones, Edyn and Strag via mobile and
internet platforms as they navigate their way through environmental obstacles
and confront the constant challenges and creatures that threaten the vitality of
the 12 precious Moonlands of Magi Nation.
A Cookie Jar and Daiwon (South Korea) co-production, "Magi-Nation" follows the
adventures of 15-year-old Tony J ones, whose world is forever changed when he is
mystically transported into Magi Nation - a beautiful world far beyond
imagination that was created millennia ago by a powerful race known as the Magi.
Here Tony meets Edyn and Strag, two young Magi heroes in training, who help him
discover his vast new magical environment. However, all is not perfect in Tony's
new world as the Moonlands of Magi Nation are threatened by the evil Shadow Magi
and it's up to this young trio and their vast collection of Dream Creatures to
thwart their plans and protect their world. "Magi-Nation" is based on the
"Magi-Nation" game originally developed and published by Interactive Imagination
Corporation.

The cartoon starts airing on CBC in Canada on the 10th September 2007, on
KidsWB in the USA on the 22nd September
2007.
