The original movie hit the big screens in 1984 and it was funny to boot.  The sequels though, lacked a little something that the original movie had and weren't as funny.  Somewhere down the line, a cartoon series was produced but before that came a toyline.

[For the most wacky fun, collect all the Police Academy characters] The toys were produced in the late eighties, so it must have been somewhere between the third and fifth movie.  Since Mahoney was a major part of the toyline, I would suggest it's before the fifth, either just after the third or the fourth movie.

[Captain Harris Mailaway offer]

The first series consists of eight figures - five good guys and three bad guys.  A ninth character - Captain Harris was available as a mail away figure.

[Tackleberry, Hightower and Mahoney][Zed][Jones]

The five good guys were Mahoney, Tackleberry, Hightower, Jones and Zed.  Each one of them had a unique action.  Mahoney could spray water out from his gun, likewise, samson could squirt water as well, Jones had a microphone which made a sound, Tackleberry could raise his hands, Zed could drop his pants and Hightower could throw his scooter.

The three bad guys in the first series were rather cool as well.  Each of them also had a unique feature:  Mr. Sleaze's tie can pop up to reveal a gun, Numbskull's head rotates and Claw backpack chopper blades can be spun.

The latter series had vehicles and more figures, including Sweetchuck.  It's a pity they didn't have Hook, one of my favourite character from the movie.  Oh well.

There were a number of vehicles and accessories as well in the line, including the crash cycle, pictured above.  Notice the hands-cuffers that's also in the picture.
