Bucky O'Hare followed close after the Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles (and the Thundercats before that) and might possibly mark the start of the dark and gritty animal cartoons of the early nineties that also included the Biker Mice from Mars and Swat Cats.

The storyline is simple really - talking red-blooded mammals and birds against frogs and other reptiles.  Most of the main figures have been made into toys including the little kid Willy.

Neither the toys nor the cartoons was successful, but there is still quite a sizable fan base out there for the line.  The toys had no firing parts, no gimmicks, nothing, just your random average figure with accessories.  The Nintendo game might have something to keep the fans interested as well.
