Modulok Multi-bot.  Four Heads are better than two.

[Modulok - Evil Beast of a Thousand Bodies]            [Multi-bot - Evil Robot of a Thousand Bodies]

Modulok was one of the 5 original Horde figures that started the Horde faction of Masters of the Universe.  The other four were Hordak, Grizzlor, Leech and Mantenna.  In the cartoon he was portrayed as a scientist.  In the minicomics, he's portrayed as devious and implike.  Well, whatever his personality, this was the closest toy that He-Man and the Masters of the Universe will come to Lego.

Modulok came with 22 parts - two heads, four hands, six legs, one torso, two abdomens, two tails and five connector pieces.  There are also two guns, which can be combined to a bigger gun.

[Modulok's 22 parts]

These parts may be combined again and again in various ways to create different monsters - hence he was billed as a beast of a thousand bodies.

[Modulok box front]

Each part may snap together by fitting the "pegs" into the "holes".

[Modulok instructions]

One curiosity is on the back of the box.  All but one of these creatures can be made with the parts provided.  The weird contraption second from the left on the first row is not possible!

[Modulok monsters]

It can also be noted that there are only 21 monsters shown in this panel, add in the three other monsters and you get a grand total of 24, way less than a thousand than is advertised on the box front!  I suppose it's up to one's imagination to create the remainder 976!

Modulok must have proved to be a good seller, because the next wave of Horde figures included a clone of Modulok.  This time, for diversity, this clone was made out to be a robot and named Multi-bot.  Ah well, the name could have been worse.  This was the robot with a thousand bodies, although again, the back of the box

[Multi-bot Box Front]

Like Modulok, Multi-bot had 22 body pieces and two gun pieces.  The 22 body pieces includes two heads, two torsos, four arms, six legs, three abdomen and five connector pieces.

[Multi-bot's 22 parts]

These pieces can be combined together to form different robots.  Wait a minute?  Have we heard this before?

[Multi-bot's Instructions]

Eventhough it is billed as the monster of a thousand bodies, the box only shows a psaltry 10!  That's 11 less than Modulok.  The toy designers must be running out of ideas.  I wonder where one is suppose to dig up the 987 robots from?  I doubt it's even possible!

[Multi-bot monsters

The interesting thing about  these parts were that they were compatible with Modulok's allowing both to be mixed together to create weird bionic hybrids!

[Monster]

Wow!  Something that can finally rival Hindu gods with their multiple limbs!  And there you have it.  He-Man's attempt to create Lego with Action Figures.  Not too shabby a start.  Oh and have you heard?  Lego has now decided to create their own versions of Modulok and Multibot - only that they are calling it Galidor!
