Artificial Blood!
Gore, no, not the failed 2000 presidential candidate in the US, but the stuff that makes one go "Yuck!" (although I'm sure that phrase can be applied to the said US presidental candidate for some people) - stuff like slimy intestines and disembodied body parts, and of course blood. Whether it be corn-syrup with food colouring, ketchup, or some other weird stuff, blood has always been a cornerstone of gore, and the Mad Scientist toy line also had it's share.
So how do you make blood? Or plasma as it's known in the Mad Scientist jargon?
Well first you get one of those splatters set. What is a splatters set? It's part of the second series of the toys. It has two monsters and the kit that enables you to make the plasma.

Then you fill the plunger thing with warm water...

and chuck in the Instant Plasma Gel. This is a reddish powder, that doesn't really dissolve in the water at all.
![[Stir Hard]](../../../../MadSci/Images/Splatters/Step3.jpg)
It really has to be stirred really, really hard to get the Instant Plasma Gel to mix with the water. By the way, gel is rather misleading - it's more like a mixture of red flour in water. A gel is suppose to be jello like.

Add the Pure Plasma Energy. If you expected fizzing or something, well, there is none of that...
![[Final Plasma Product]](../../../../MadSci/Images/Splatters/Step5.jpg)
It looks plain boring as the picture above shows...
Fill up the Splatters monster with the Plasma and the make it go splat... the plasma will ooze out of the joints.
![[Splattered Monster]](../../../../MadSci/Images/Splatters/Step6.jpg)
To be really honest it doesn't even look like blood... what a disappointment...
![[Close Up]](../../../../MadSci/Images/Splatters/Step6a.jpg)
Why is it called plasma? Well, if you see the close up above you can see the yellowish fluid separating from the plasma, just like what would happen if you have a cut (or if you pick a scab - urgh!). I guess that's why the call it plasma.
It's absolutely boring though, the blood looks and feels really artificial. Nothing interesting happens, no fizzing, no solidification, nothing. Gimme a glow-in-the-dark boil anyday! Now that's gore-y!
